Spain, Day 1

More for myself than anything else, I thought it would be fun to chronicle our vacation in a daily blog.  If this takes too much time to maintain during the time, I might abandon it.  Then again, who’s reading this anyways…

Spain Day 1: Malaga

Terrible flight.  The average age of the passengers had to be 70.  Couldn’t tell if the dirty looks I was getting was because of my youth or my tanned skin.  Before I sit down, my watch falls off and is buried under my seat.  Reaching isn’t working so it’s time to go on my hand and knees.  The old ladies behind me think that I’m trying to steal their precious 20 year old bags and shredded jackets.  Great start, but on the bright side it can only get better.  Or so I thought…

Finally get my watch, come back up for air.  Laura was smart enough to take the window seat leaving me with the middle.  The guy sitting next to me was disgusting. I hate to say it, but he smelled like death
itself.  Even though i was freezing, had to max out the air vents to minimize the damage to my nostrils.  It HAS to get better.  I must have not really believed it the first time.  My bad.

Couldn’t sleep well on the flight.  The guy in front of me maxed out on the recline, which always annoys the shit out of me.  At one point he set his seat back to its original position for his meal.  When he
tried to recline I remember pushing his seat back in an attempt to protect the little space I had. Laura says that i was also screaming “NO!” and “NO MORE!” while violently shaking his seat throughout all this, scaring some passengers.  I only remember thinking those things to myself.  Must have been sleeping…

We landed at 1130 am local time, or 530 am est.  Customs was a cake walk.  After speaking to information, we decided to bus it to our hotel, saving us about 15 euros and getting to feel out the city a bit. Bus 19 only comes every 30 mins so we waited.  Ten mins away from the buses scheduled arrival, it hit me that we had no change  (the fare was 1 euro and our smallest bill was 10 euros cause that’s just how we roll).  I run back into the airport and start hounding stores for change to no avail.  After my 5th attempt I abandoned my mission.  I run back to the bus stop only to get there just in time to watch the bus drive away. Laura was really sweet about it.  I’m not so sure I would have reacted that way if I were in her shoes. Actually, I know I wouldn’t have.

The hotel (Salles Centro) is real nice. Passed out for 30 minutes, did some itinerary planning, went out to eat. So far, it’s been fun planning this trip as we go along.  Let’s see how we execute.

Shit.  Wordpress’ button to upload images isn’t working.  Guess I’ll have to post those another time.
